I recommend you to search for and install all/most of them (and just these) if you want a vanilla updated experience. In the System Shock Remake's January Update, they mention what community mods are being used for the upcoming SS2 enhanced edition. Prey has the gameplay, SS2 has the story. In SS2 you'll be hiding, sneaking, and spending time in item menus. Tldr: in Prey you'll be jumping, dodging, moving. Also prey has some FUCKED load times if not playing on PC (i played it on Xbox one and it long asf) (mine is day one Xbox maybe the newer xbox ones were better). Also because SS2 doesn't pause when you're in various menu, i found it extremely immersive. Its really good (almost a full other game honestly). Prey has phenomenal gameplay (with alot of sandbox freedom) but just a serviceable story. SS2 has a great story and super intricate player cutomization (/player freedom) but the gameplay can be a bit clunky sometimes. They are the opposite types of immersive sims (but both reach their respective peaks imo). Didn't have any mods, just fool with the controls till you feel comfortable. I played SS2 first, would recommend that as well.
